~Sausage and Pepper Pizza with Cream Cheese Sauce~


Tonight I just had to break all rules and make this killer pizza 😉 I found a recipe on Pinterest that called for jalapenos and the sauce called for ranch dressing. Now, I get that there are folks out there who may find that combination tasty, but my family is rather particular. 

So I made my own cream cheese sauce and it is phenominal! I hope you all give it a try, you can use any pizza dough you like…homemade or store bought, you can make this pizza with or without sausage. Just be sure to use plenty of sauce and cheese when you do! 

Cream Cheese Pizza Sauce

(Makes enough sauce for two half sheet pans of pizza)

1/2 stick butter

1 medium onion, diced

8 ounce brick of cream cheese

1/4 cup all purpose flour

1 1/2–2 cups heavy cream

salt to taste

Melt butter and saute onions until transparent. Add brick of cream cheese. Stir until the cream cheese is lumpy and stir in flour. With a whisk, whisk in the heavy cream and salt. The sauce should be thick, not soupy. 

Sausage and Pepper Pizza

1 13.5 ounce can Great Value pizza dough, or your preferred dough

1 cup cream cheese pizza sauce

6 sausage patties, cooked, crumbled, drained

1–2 cups mozzarella cheese

4–5 jalapenos, deseeded and diced

Carefully stretch pizza dough out on a parchment lined sheet pan. Spread cream cheese sauce on the dough leaving a 1–inch boarder around the edge. This will create the crust! Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on next, adding the crumbled sausage and diced peppers last. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 12–14 minutes. Edges should be lightly browned and bottom browned. 

Let it rest for a few minutes before cutting. One half sheet pan will yield 18 square slices. 

Tonight I used a Great Value Pizza Dough. It actually fits a half sheet pan nicely! The can says it can make a thick crust, but we’re thin crust lovers over here. We have also used Pizza Buddy dough, found over in the deli section of Walmart, Pilsbury pizza dough(not a fan) and our absolute favorite is my Mom’s homemade dough. This is why I say use whatever pizza dough you prefer. 

Any leftover sauce can be stored in a freezer safe container. When you reheat it, be sure to do it slowly in a pan over low heat so the dairy won’t separate. You can also dip cheesy bread in this sauce or enjoy it over your favorite pasta. This pizza is great for football parties, two sheet pans can feed a crowd easily!
